Monty Python continues to be one of the most influential comedy groups in the history of British television. Monty Python’s television show Monty Python and The Flying Circus aired on BBC from 1969 to 1974. Even after Monty Python’s television show concluded, Monty Python has been a constant fixture in popular culture, even in books. There are a number of books on and inspired by Monty Python. These books are Monty Python's Big Red Book (1971), The Brand New Monty Python Bok, Monty Python and The Holy Grail (book) – Mønti Pythøn ik den Hølie Gräilen (Bøk) (1977), MONTYPYTHONSCRAPBOOK/ The Life of Brian (1979), Monty Python's Flying Circus – Just The Words Volume 1 (1989), Monty Python's Flying Circus – Just The Words Volume 2, The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus Volumes 1 & 2, The Fairly Incomplete & Rather Badly Illustrated Monty Python Song Book (1994).
Michael Palin Diaries 1969–1979, The Pythons: Autobiography by the Pythons, and The Life of Brian/Jesus (2011).
Monty Python's Big Red Book is a comedy book containing materials mostly derived from Monty Python’s television series Monty Python and the Flying Circus. The book was first published in 1971. The book The Brand New Monty Python Bok, published in 1973, contained more comic print-style than Monty Python’s first book but also contained Flying Circus material. The book Monty Python and The Holy Grail (book) contains the entire script of the movie by the same style including production notes. The first part of Life of Brian/MONTYPYTHONSCRAPBOOK, published in 1979, contains the entire script of the Python movie Life of Brian while the second part contains narratives of deleted sequences as well as excerpts from Monty Python members’ diaries. Monty Python's Flying Circus – Just The Words Volume 1 (1989) and Monty Python's Flying Circus – Just The Words Volume 2, as well as The Complete Monty Python's Flying Circus Volumes 1 & 2 contain scripts of Flying Circus episodes. The Fairly Incomplete & Rather Badly Illustrated Monty Python Song Book, is a book containing the words of almost all of Monty Python songs from their television series.
One of six Monty Python members, Michael Palin, wrote the book Michael Palin Diaries 1969–1979 that chronicles the formation of Monty Python and gives insights on the group’s dynamics during the period. The Pythons: Autobiography by the Pythons is a book written by the members of Monty Pythons on their lives, from childhood to their days as members of Monty Python and after. The book has a lot of pictures of the members, some sketches by Terry and letters written by the members. Finally, The Life of Brian/Jesus, written by Julian Doyle, analyses the movie and compares scenes in it to corresponding Biblical events.
