Merry Christmas from Our Favorite Cardinal
Christmas is a very special time if you're a member of the Spanish Inquisition.
A green plaque, which recognises local people and places of importance, was installed at Graham Chapman’s former family home in Molton Mowbray on 10 December 2014 to honor the late founding member of Monty Python.
Monty Python was presented with the British Comedy Academy Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s British Comedy Awards, on Tuesday 16th December.
Sam Holmes, who starred alongside the group in their O2 shows in July, accepted the award on behalf of the Pythons under the guise of the group’s physician. Terry G sent the above “acceptance” illustration and you can watch Michael Palin's "acceptance" speech here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQeTsdXbA_I.

Attendees at Saturday night’s American Cinemateque screening of Monty Python’s iconic “Life of Brian” at the Aero received a bonus — six minutes of footage from the Pythonesque sci-fi farce “Absolutely Anything,” screened by director Terry Jones.
Last week saw the start of building the definitive Python archive.
Boxes of memorabilia, photographs, artwork, costumes, posters, merchandise, books and more, including a pink pinball machine, much of which hasn’t been looked at for decades and needs a good dusting-off, have been pulled together under one roof.
Over the coming months, all this fascinating and priceless material will be sorted through, restored where needed and eventually scanned to create the ultimate Python archive.
As we delve deeper into this Python treasure trove we will post news and images of what we find, sharing parts of the forgotten Python journey and embellishing it with some never-before-seen material.
This is a really exciting development in the Python [journey] that will unearth a whole new collection of material from which we can produce new products for all to enjoy. Who knows, it might even inspire some new Python productions.
Keep up to date with the #PythonArchive by checking our Twitter, Facebook, and here on our website.
‘The Silly Walk’ app is the latest addition to the Monty Python app collection, joining ‘Python Bytes’ and ‘Monty Python: The Holy Book of Days’, so we thought we’d do a round up of these Monty Python apps.
The Silly Walk
‘The Silly Walk’ app invites you to join that British bastion of eccentric loco-motion - 'The Ministry of Silly Walks'. Your assignment as a member of this venerable organisation is to showcase your increasingly frantic promenading as far as you possibly can. As you and your stiff upper lip travel through the streets of London take care to avoid obstacles and pesky pigeons. Bank coins and collect power ups to help take your walk to new heights of silliness.
Highlights include:
- Voice acting by the Minister of Silly Walks himself, Mr John Cleese
- Randomised obstacles and scenery so you never play the same game twice
- Use your banked coins to buy sillier suits and enhanced power ups
- Sumptuous 3D Graphics
- Realistic physics and ragdoll
- Regular updates

Python Bytes
The ‘Python Bytes’ collection - made up of ‘Series 1’, ‘Series 2’ and ‘Series 3’ to reflect the ‘Monty Python Flying Circus’ sketches featured - puts the very best of Python in your pocket.
‘Python Bytes 1’ brings you 22 of the best sketches from the first series of ‘Monty Python’s Flying Circus’; ‘Python Bytes 2’ brings you 21 of the best sketches from the second series; and ‘Python Bytes 3’ brings you the 20 best sketches from the third series. Not just that, it includes ‘Sketch Commentaries’ where you can listen to the Pythons describe how the sketches got made.
Python Bytes is complete anarchy. Just shake your iPhone and up pops another random sketch. The genuinely laugh-out-loud sketches are yours forever, packed into your iPhone and watchable anywhere.
Probably the most fun you can have with one hand....

Monty Python: The Holy Book of Days
‘Monty Python: The Holy Book of Days” provides a comprehensive, day-by-day look at the filming of The Holy Grail, with particular attention paid to the pitfalls and failures that the Monty Python comedy troupe experienced in trying "to make an epic film in just 28 days."
Following an unsurprisingly dry and self-depreciating introduction by John Cleese, the user is presented with two sections: "The Book of Days" – which breaks the filming down into 28 days, with content focused on whatever scene was being shot that day - and "The Holy Chapters" – which provides an alternate way to view much of this content; instead of organizing it by shooting date, it follows along with the film scene-by-scene
With a total of 70 minutes of never-before-seen video, including recent visits by the cast to various filming locations around Scotland like the "Bridge of Death" and "Castle Aaargh"; a day-by-day diary from Michael Palin (who played Sir Galahad); and 360-degree views of key props this app provides a ton of new content.
